Created by Parents Anonymous as a Celebration of Parenthood, National Parent Leadership Month Recognizes the Role of Parents in their Families and Communities
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — 25 years ago this month, Parents Anonymous, Inc.® created National Parent Leadership Month®. In the years since its creation, the month-long celebration throughout February has been celebrated nationwide, recognizing the important role of parents and caregivers in their homes and communities to shape the next generation of adults and parents.
The impact Parents Anonymous has had in supporting parents in their leadership and empowerment journeys is apparent by these newly released, remarkable statistics:
- 85% of parents, children and youth who call Parents Anonymous’ Helplines feel more positive and hopeful
- Parents Anonymous Groups prevent child abuse and neglect by 63%
- Provided over 1,109,595 comprehensive resource referrals
- Proven to reduce social isolation, anxiety, stress, and depression and enhance resilience, and family functioning
“Since 1969 we have proven that Asking for Help is a Sign of Strength®. In addition to National Parent Leadership Month, Parents Anonymous, Inc. has supported the empowerment journey of parents through its Weekly Adult and Children & Youth Parents Anonymous Groups, the National Parent & Youth Helpline and the California Parent & Youth Helpline,” says Dr. Lisa Pion-Berlin, ACHT, ACSW, President and CEO of Parents Anonymous, Inc. “Now in my 33rd year with this organization, I feel that more than ever, we face a world with unparalleled challenges for parents making our mission even more essential. Parents and caregivers form the foundation of families and thriving communities – they are the unsung heroes, and they deserve all the support we can give them. We feel honored to recognize their strength and deliver essential resources for overcoming life’s most challenging times.”
Recent studies have even shown that many parents are experiencing burnout from their caregiving demands, leading to higher levels of exhaustion, stress and anxiety. We are experiencing a mental health crisis for both parents and children. The constant stream of negative news, ranging from devastating weather events and economic uncertainties to political upheaval, mass shootings and the overall awful things that occur every day in our communities, has pushed many parents to their breaking point.
Fortunately, there is help readily available during challenging times. For more information about Parents Anonymous® and its programs, visit parentsanonymous.org. Those needing emotional support can call or text 855-427-2736 or live chat 24/7 through nationalparentyouthhelpline.org.
